Youth & Community workers help promote personal and social development of young people by helping them reach their full potential. They build good relationship and help young people become more confident and teach them how to cope with issues in their lives.

A Typical Day:

A typical day for a Youth & Community worker might include

  • Advising and supporting young people
  • Organising sports, arts, drama and other activities for the young people
  • Recruiting, training and managing staff including volunteers
  • Assessing the specific needs of young people and planning/delivering programmes related to these specific needs. These needs could be in form of health, drugs, smoking and bullying to mention a few.

Entry Requirements

Anyone who works with children must pass the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) clearance checks.

To become a professional youth worker, one needs at least a BA honours degree in youth work that is recognised by National Youth Agency (NYA) or a post graduate certificate if you already have a degree in any subject.

Experience (paid or unpaid) working with young people is also necessary
